Shiodome

The Shiodome area used to be a seaside filled with reed. This station, originally called Shimbashi, served as one of Japan’s most important freight yards for 72 years from 1914 to 1986.

The plant is indigenous in Japan and was often depicted in ancient poems such as the Manyoshu anthology in the 8th century.
