Aomi

The station is located in the district called Aomi (‘blue sea’), a symbolic name for the refreshing Rinkai Waterfront area. To the south of the station spread the Aomi Container Terminal and the Odaiba Liner Terminal where numerous cargo ships can be viewed.

This pattern with waves is said to have been originated from a dance costume in the Heian era (794-1185).
It became very popular during the Genroku period (1688-1704) as the famous lacquerware artist Kanshichi actively employed this pattern in his artworks.
